But here's something more constructive: TargetNeutral, a BP-backed non-profit scheme promoting carbon-neutral driving. Enter the details of your car(s) and your annual mileage, and then pay an annual fee funding projects aimed at offsetting the carbon emissions from your car.

George Monbiot might well criticise this as yet another means for the middle-classes to assuage their guilt and feel morally superior through "green consumerism", rather than making real lifestyle changes to reduce our environmental impact. He might well have a point. But if nothing else, it's a way to support some worthwhile projects rather than just writing whingy blog posts...
