The Church of England is advertising for nominations for the next Archbishop of York. Think I'm going to start a write-in campaign for the job to go to Phillip Jensen, especially given the recent news report in the Guardian in which he was misreported as describing Rowan Williams as a prostitute. That would liven up Primates' Meetings and General Synod no end.
(BTW, I know what you're all thinking: "The Guardian? Engaging in hostile and tendentious misrepresentations of evangelicals? Whatever next?" But then, the Guardian's style-guide entry on evangelicalism tells you all you need to know about how well-informed and fair-minded the Guardian is about evangelicals).
Speaking to one of my wife's relatives on Monday, it appears that the word on the (Roman Catholic) street is that the current Archbishop of York's retirement to parish ministry in Ilkley is a means of enabling him to swim the Tiber more discreetly when (there's no "if" about it) the Church of England approves the consecration of women bishops.
