Confessing Evangelical

There certainly seem to be some good things on the way from CPH. Here are some forthcoming publications that look very worthwhile indeed:

1. Concordia, the "Reader's Edition of the Book of Concord" mentioned in my earlier post. List price $29.99, but available for $20.00 during 2005.
   
   Don't miss the FAQs about the Book of Concord that I mentioned before, or this picture of the cover of the new book. Looks very attractive.
   


2. A new pamphlet edition of the Augsburg Confession (PDF), using the historical introductory materials from "Concordia". $8.99 for a pack of ten copies. The ELCE is apparently planning to buy a stack of these so that each ELCE member can be given a copy, which is a great idea.
   


3. A reformatted edition of the Small Catechism with Explanation: Revd Paul McCain says that CPH are "typesetting it in a much more attractive format, and commissioning new art for it, and coming out with both bonded and genuine leather editions. Those leather editions will have the art in four color. So that will be a nice thing when it is available."
   
   However, for UK readers interested in learning more about Lutheranism, please note that the current edition is currently selling on Amazon.co.uk for the absurd price of £4.19. While you're at it, buy Gene Veith's "Spirituality of the Cross" for £4.71. You will not regret either purchase.
   


4. Perhaps a slightly more "niche" publication this: a properly typeset and laid-out version of Dr Friedrich Bente's "Historical Introduction to the Lutheran Confessions", previously only available in what I gather is horrible 6-point, two-column text as part of the Concordia Triglotta edition of the BoC.
   
   "While it may be a bit old and may be a bit strident for some, it is very faithful to our Confessions and does not mince words about the errors of the times", writes Revd McCain. I should point out, however, that my pastor howled with anguish at the very mention of this work, and translated Revd McCain's description as "it's out of date and no-one will want to buy it". So there's a recommendation for you. ;-)
   

And let's not forget the two LSBs, the Lutheran Service Book coming next year, and then the ESV-based Lutheran Study Bible hopefully sometime in 2007.
